Mad passion for the crafts and life!

I have a mad passion for the crafts.  My husband can attest to that because on more than one occasion I've been known to say, with all seriousness "I can't stop thinking g about the crafts."
But let me fill in the background here with a little context, to make it clearer where I'm coming from and why I am, the way I am.  And, moreover, what I've learned about life how that knowledge has shaped the things I love, like to do, and the way I think.
I'm just like any other person.  When I hear catchy music set to a good beat it makes me want to run and run faster and faster.  When I observe other people who are successful in a certain aspect.  I think I want to be like that, whether that be a  healthier eater, being more fit, heck even better looking hair (short or long).  I think it's wise to try and emulate behavior that leads to a happy and fulfilled life.
I'm not very good at expressing my feelings in words or composing them on paper but I love to do it.  I learned long ago you don't necessarily have to be good at something to enjoy doing it.  And furthermore, the more you practice at something, the more you do it, the better you'll get at doing it.  And what's successful people do.  They work, the train, they practice, they study until they are the best at what they do.  Edison said, genius is only ten percent inspiration but ninety percent perspiration (or something in that vein I'm not quoting directly).  And Edison was a highly successful person.
I did my own personal blog for years and that's helped craft my skills of articulation. I'll probably refer to my old blog numerous times throughout.
I'm a full time employee for a wonderful insurance company.  And, someday, when I don't work there, I'll have plenty of colorful stories to tell you about car accidents and how sadly stupid, and dishonest people are. My next big goal in life is working towards becoming a full time stay-at-home mom.  Which in today's economy is harder than climbing a corporate ladder, or breaking the fabled "glass ceiling."  Being a mom to my two and half month old son is one of very favorite things to do, even more than crafts.
So, here's to being a wife, a mother, and a crafty business woman. I'm trying to sell my stuff in Etsy in the hopes of making it big or finding a family that doesn't mind a nanny with a child or a work from home job. All I've ever wanted to be is a wife and mother and I'm finally there, my dreams have come true in that regard and this is my new dream. Be a stay at home mom and selling my crafts and my photos. Let the journey begin.

Simple cake stand

For my wedding I didn't want a traditional cake. I decided to make my own cake stands at different levels and different leves of cake on them. This was an easy three step process.

First you find the stand part. For this I looked every where I found the two big ones at handcock frantic on clearance for  under 8 each an I got 2. One I found a candle stix at habit for humanity and the. I went to an antiques shop and got an old milk bottle
I found this plate at an little antuqice show down the street and it was roughly about 4 dollars- I have found other plates at GoodWill (which here in KY my husband and I think it's BadWill)
Found this at Hancock Fabric on sale for about 8 or 6 dollars then I went next door to Michaels and got the fake flower for 30% off.
This plumbers GOOP is AWESOME- if you make a mistake if wipes away with hot water until dry. Dishwasher safe.

Here you go the finished product

Add a pop of color to your engagement and bridal photos

There is a super cute way to embellish your engagement photos and your bridals. Clay and I have a word we use together which is 'mootah' it can really mean anything (it's one of our special words) and we of course, as any lovers, use the word 'love' a lot too. I made these signs and took them to our photo shoot in Washington D.C. with my sister at marielopezphotography.com I also was so excited about the chalk board i made to say The Clay & Shay Show. I painted an old frame back that is wooden with chalk board paint. It was fun to add my own pop of color. The Clay & Shay Show is kind of your tag lines. I also got big wooden letters and painted them white for Mrs. in my engement photos. I was already making a MR. & MRS. sign for over our bed...... Stay tuned for that blog post. I would recommend this to any couple, using inside words and phrases that are unique to you guys (every couple has them).  It's a neat way to persnonalize them to you all.

Shower curtain bracelets

Here's a simple and easy craft project and great for anyone old enough to use a hot glue gun!

First you take some old shower curtain rings.

Second gather some scraps of fabrics. It actually looks cute with scraps and a little fringe.

Next hot glue the edge closest to the end and wrap the fabric tightly around the shower curtain and glue at the other end!

Canvas photos

I love to take photos but I also like to display them in all different ways. My awesome sister Marie
marielopezphotography.com took my husband and my engagement pictures. We all met in Washington, D.C. And had an awesome photo shoot all over town. When I got the photos back there were so many to choose from but I knew I wanted to put one photo on canvas and enlarge it and make four look like one! When I saw this photo I knew it was the one. Mostly because I loved it and our faces wouldn't be cut into different squares. I went to my one stop shop Michael s and got a pack of four 8 X 10 ans then I knew how big to blow up my photo. Then I went to my one stop shop for photos and that is totally Costco. I carefully measured and used a straight edge and cut my lovely photo into four 8 X 10s. I used two sided scrapbook sticky on the back of my photos to keep in place until I modpoged over the photo. One of my favorite things about modpodging over photographs is it makes them look like paintings! Since the canvas is so light I bought the 3M Velcro that is made for walls hung them up.

Old door into new desk

I am so excited about the desk I made. Well, I transformed an old door into a desk or work space for all of my crafts. You should ask my hubby, my crafts have really exploded in our very small apartment. We live in what feels like an apartment that is about 2 X 2  and we have even gotten rid of more than half of our stuff. I just love to craft and sell stuff and now I can try to keep it to one space- minus storing it until sold. There are some simple steps to making this desk.

First, stop by your local Habitat for Humanity store and find an old door that you love. This one was only $30.00- We got a deal- there were others like this for almost $100.00 but the rest without so much glass were 5-10 dollars 20 at the most and those had half glass.
Find your nearest Grandpa that has space and tools you can use to help your project go smoothly.

Then, find a neighbor willing to let you use his sander. I felt so bad the sander broke while I was using it! Look at the handsome hubby hard at work.

Next go to the local Home Depot and they will cut the size you need for your saw horses. I got the silver clamps there and on their box it show the sizing for different heights.  I used primer before the spray paint- The new wood will soak up all the spray paint and you'll go through a lot if you don't prime first.
Even though I sanded and sanded this wonderful door I did end up spray painting it because there was a small groove by the glass I couldn't get a good sanding rythm going and I was running out of time, Grandpa needed his garage back and I wanted to use my desk.
Spray paint door after covering the glass with tape and paper
Spray paint the saw horse and put together, then place door on saw horse and craft!
Our house is still a mess and I will add the finished product once I get the house organized!
